The Segovian candidacy for European Cultural capital 2016 has handed in its final dossier this week in the Ministry of Culture, in Madrid. The Mayor Mr. Pedro Arahuetes accompanied by Clara Luquero, cultural councilwoman and the director of the Office for Segovia 2016 Nuria Preciado delivered in person ten copies in Spanish and another ten in English, as established in the bases. The final date to turn in the dossiers was initially the 22nd of April but due to the Easter Holidays the date was postponed till the 23rd. The resolution must be resolved and made public by the 28th of June when one of the final eight candidate cities who hope obtain the title will know for sure.
As in the dossier that was delivered in the preselecting phase, in this occasion the book is also bound in a very special and unique cover. It brings together the traditional craftsmanship from Segovia and a touch of contemporary art.
The book itself, continues with the modern graphic line as was the first book, but brings in an important change in its cover. In the preselecting phase, it was completely white. This second book comes in vivid colors with an illustration by Segovia 2016 Ambassador Ouka Leele. This cover was inspired on the Myth of Europe included in the cultural program for 2016 that the artist has designed to honor Melina Mercouri, inspirer of the European Culture Capital program.
Inside, the book continues with its stylized easy to read format but gives more importance to content rather than image. It is divided into three sections and has a file which answers the questions as established in the rules that now requests more elaborate replies and answers than in the pre-selection process. It also includes a report which the Segovia 2016 Office thought needed more thorough explaining making an emphasis on the content for the cultural program in 2016.
Regarding the questions and recommendations that the Selection Committee put forward after the first pre-selection phase, Segovia has made its reply in the dossier in which a creative team composed of five members have worked hard in. This was foreseen previously. Each member has worked in one area of the program dossier for Segovia 2016 (Convergentes, Konexionex, Paisajes and Bravo) all coordinated by the fifth member of the team.
As for the infrastructures, if in the first dossier all the possibilities were mentioned; in this one, only those that are necessary are detailed.
Finally, the dossier includes an annex with letters of intention from institutions, companies, political and territorial entities, associations and cities that have certified their interest in collaborating with Segovia if chosen European Cultural Capital.
